Origins
Humans have been around since the dawn of time.
There is nothing spectacular about them other than the sheer fact that they have spread across the world and are able to survive in the most hostile of environments.
Humans first moved to the area, now known as the Badlands millenia before our story begins, becoming the people we know today as natives. A whole new batch showed up in 1869, when people first started to seek out new frontiers and the 1848 gold rush was still in full swing as people struggled to find new avenues of fame and fortune. This was like any other situation; they moved into the area and started building settlements and towns, working the land and thriving in the environment as is the case with anything else they had set their minds upon.
If nothing, humanity is a stubborn lot.
When the rifts first opened it was a time of strife and horror as humanity struggled to survive. But, regardless of the trouble, they did and in 1882 they attempted to bring statehood to the Badlands officially. Whilst the government of the Badlands did not last long, the ‘state’ still exists and is, more or less, left to its own devices.

Magical Proclivity
Humans are stubborn and this includes their ability to use magic. Magic does not come easy to humans, in fact, it should be impossible for them to control. And yet some have managed to tap into the arcane. It is extremely rare to find a human that can naturally control magic as well as another caste, but with good ol’ human ambition they somehow exist. Humans have been found to be able to access any and all types of magic, though they have to work twice as hard as their supernatural counterparts to learn it and control it.
